Screen-Free Summer Activities: Why Martial Arts Makes a Difference
Summer break is supposed to be a time for kids to stay active, explore new interests, and build lasting memories. However, for many families, summer
I get this question all the time from students and athletes who train with us. Some are looking for an edge and some are looking for a magic potion to help them reach their performance goals. My answer is always; of course I do, but they are virtually useless unless you put in the work!
Supplementation is not only useful but necessary to reach your peak performance. But there is a catch… you must do the work. There is no magic pill or supplement that will get you to peak performance or make you drop twenty pounds. It just doesn’t work like that!
When added properly to diet, exercise and training, supplementation will yield incredible results and get you that edge that you are looking for. Again, you must put in the work!
The next question is always, what supplements do you take? Over the years I have taken so many different supplements from many different manufacturers. I will tell you that not all supplements are created equal.
In the United States, supplement companies are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Not that the FDA always approves the best products or puts out the best recommendations, because that is certainly not the case. My point is that if you’re using supplements look past the marketing schemes and research the company.
Find out where the products are manufactured, how they are manufactured and what the ingredients are actually in the products.. Make sure you know what you are putting into your body. It is important for both performance, results and health.
I personally use 1st Phorm for all my supplements. They have a great reputation and produce a phenomenal product. I have included a list of the supplements that I use and a link to 1st Phorm’s website. I use them all and get amazing results, but do the research yourself and you will see. Also, if you only try only one of my recommendations, get the post workout stack… It’s a gamechanger and it tastes great, especially the CTC!
As always, if you have any questions, would like to know more about supplements, when I take them and why, please email me at rocky@groundcontrolmma.com.

Boxing has long been known as “the sweet science,” and once you begin training, you quickly understand why. It is not just about throwing punches or moving quickly. It is about thinking clearly, reacting with intention, and controlling each exchange with purpose. At its core, boxing is a blend of timing, awareness, and discipline that challenges both your body and your mind.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has become one of the most popular martial arts in the world for good reason. It offers practical self-defense skills, a challenging full-body workout, and a supportive training community. One reason the sport continues to grow is that it can be practiced safely by people of many ages and experience levels when proper training habits are followed.
